Białowieża

Białowieża - Narewka - cemetery
19th century
Grób Chaima Krugmana z
Białowieży na kirkucie w Narewce
The Jewish community in Bialowieza did not have their own cemetery in its area. All witnesses and all publications agree on this piece of information. However, there is no agreement as to which of the cemeteries situated in neighboring towns Jews used. They were certainly buried in the cemetery in Narewka during the interwar period (1918-1939). Firstly, since 1927, the Bialowieza Jewish community was formally incorporated into the newly established Jewish community in Narewka. Secondly, we have proof of at least one burial - in Narewka there was a tomb of Chaim Krugman, who died in 1922 in Białowieża, husband of Reina Feldbaum, who while emigrating from Bialowieza in 1929, took a picture with her daughters at her husband's grave.
A fragment of the text by Katarzyna Winiarska comes from the Virtual Museum of the History ofJews in Białowieża.
