Jedwabne

Jedwabne - the jewish cemetery
XIX - XX

Jewish cemetery in Jedwabne is located approximately 500 m northeast of the city center, at  Krasickiego street. The cemetery was probably founded in the mid-nineteenth century. It is known that before the war the cemetery was surrounded by a fence, a gate crowned with boards Commandments. During the pogrom of July 10, 1941 in a barn located in the immediate vicinity of the cemetery, a group of residents of the city and surrounding villages burned the Jews of Jedwabne. The exact number of victims remains unknown. Events connected with the pogrom took place also at the cemetery.
