The synagogue was built in 1902. It was named Beit Shmuel in honor of the famous Białystok Rabbi, an eminent Zionist activist Samuel Mohilewer. Samuel Mohylewer, Samuel Lejbowicz Molewer (b. 25 April 1824 in Głębokie, d. 10 June 1898 in Białystok) – an orthodox rabbi, chief rabbi of the Białystok Jewish community, social activist, ideologue of religious Zionism, one of the founders of Hovevei Zion.
