Suchowola (Sokolka district) is another Podlasie region city where the terrible events took place. After the Soviet Army left Suchowola and before the German troops entered the city, the police was formed which consisted of Polish citizens. The events were similar to the ones in Jedwabne. First, about 70 Jews were brutally taken to the main city square where they had to weed the cobbles and were beaten. As we read in the book "The cities of death. Pogroms of Jews by neighbours", later at that squere the Polish police together with peasants gathered there, performed the first selection of Jews. Those, who according to them were unable to work or symphatized with Russians, they took to the nearby ponds and drowned them...
