My father`s family -
Gofstein lived in Goniądz. Most of the family immigrated to Israel before the war. Only my widowed
grandmother stayed with her 5 children in Goniądz because her daughter Dova Gofstein
married Moshe Kirchner and they had a son, Yosef Kirchner.
Her husband did not want to leave his family, so my grandmother stayed in the town and did not immigrate to Israel. Shadova went out to the market square with her son who was lying in a stroller and the Germans or the Poles smashed the baby`s head. We don`t know what happened to the whole family Sara 12 years old Moshe 21 years old was a soldier in the Polish army he was wounded in the leg and returned home Sprinza the widowed mother of the Gofstein family. My father assumed that they perished in Majdanek, but this is a hypothesis.

My father was
in the army, luckily he was saved. In 1986 we made a roots visit to Poland, we arrived in the
town of Goniądz and we also visited a cemetery in Bialystok that had tangled trees and broken headstones. My
father was sure he would find his father`s grave (my father was 16 years old when his father died in
1936). I really hope we find the grave because the day I was with my father at the cemetery
and he didn`t find the grave my strong and heroic father broke down and cried a child`s cry the
disappointment was huge I vowed in my heart that if the grave is found I will go up to light the
candle

The big black tombstone is in memory
of all the residents of the town after the war. I have a book that was published in memory of
the residents of the town. I hope that we will meet, I will bring the book about the town and also
photos of my father from the town as well as the certificates and medals.
