With great admiration for Srolke Kot (author of memories): brave, courageous man and his comrades, Beate Schützmann-Krebs translated Destruction of Bialystok from Yiddish into English.
Srolke Kot describes his experiences in Bialystok during the
Shoah in simple but incredibly moving words. He recalls, in vivid detail, how he, along with
other Jews and Russians, fought as partisans in the forests until liberation by the Red
Army.
Miraculously, he survived unimaginably hostile and
life-threatening conditions, and he appeals to us to be vigilant and to resist with all means against
any inhuman fascist system. The key to survival, according to Kot, was active and
vigorous resistance.
