On Friday afternoon, 18 August 2023, the alley at Modlińska 6 was filled with a crowd of several dozen people who had come to meet two exceptional people.

The reason for this group of people to gather was a meeting with the author of the book “Ostatni Białystoker” (“The Last Bialystoker”), Ms Marta Sawicka-Danielak, and Ben Midler, the book`s main protagonist.

The meeting had everything that the best author`s evenings need: there was a fantastic story about the life of an exceptional man, there were tears and emotion sresulting from the story, there was an optimistic message from a man who, despite 95 years of life, still has strength, energy and an enormous desire to learn and get to know the world and people. Finally, there was also nourishment for the body (in the form of herrings in Bialystok style and bialys), but also for the soul - in the form of a mini-recital by Alicja and Rafał Grabowski, who together with Ben Midler performed two pre-war songs in Yiddish. Finally, for all those interested, there was the opportunity to buy copies of the book and have them autographed.

The event was held as part of the cultural programme of The Association of the Museum of Bialystok Jews associated with the 80th anniversary of the Bialystok Ghetto Uprising.
