Zofia Terne
born: February 3, 1909 in Równe, Wołyń; died August 17, 1987 in London

Zofia Terné was born in a Jewish family as a daughter of Jakub Chajter and his wife Barbara from the Markiewicz family. She studied in the famous Conservatory of Polish Music Society in Lviv, in the piano and solo singing class. She was associated with the QuiPro Quo theatre and with numerous Warsaw cabarets and theatres, including Banda, Stara Banda, Cyrulik Warszawski; she also performed in music films.

In 1940, she became involved with Białystok's Theatre of Miniatures (Teatr Miniatur).

During World War II, she was a member of the artistic group of general Władysław Anders' The Polish II Corps. In the autumn of 1945 she went to the United Kingdom, she performed on Polish stages in London and in the world. She also performed in Polish bands around the world and worked with the Polish section of BBC and Radio Free Europe.

During her career, she collaborated with Zygmunt Białostocki, a Jewish composer from Białystok, and Władysław Szlengel, also associated with Białystok.
