Born in Białystok. In 1918, he went to Berlin, where he encountered the representatives of the Russian avant-garde of that time. After a few years, he moved to Paris, where he worked as a labourer, porter and librarian, to finally devote himself to art. His first exhibition took place in Toulon, later in Paris. He became an outstanding representative of the École de Paris: in Aups, Provence, there is a museum dedicated to his art. The artist's first exhibition in his hometown took place in 2010, in Podlaskie Museum (Muzeum Podlaskie).
