Izaak Celnikier
1923-2011

After the outbreak of the war, he moved to Białystok where, in 1941, he was put in the ghetto. He started working at the copy studio of the German industrialist Oscar Steffen. Miraculously rescued, he took care of the ghetto cemetery. From 1952, he lived in Warsaw; in 1955 he co-organized the National Exhibition of Young Art (Ogólnopolska Wystawa Młodej Plastyki) in "Arsenal" gallery. In 1957 he went to Paris on a scholarship, and stayed there. After the war, he created series of paintings and graphics inspired by his experiences in Białystok ghetto.
