Jewish settlement began in the seventeenth
century. Center for Jewish settlement was the market, around which there were dozens of residential buildings and shops belonging to Jews. At the end of the nineteenth century, Jews supplied the materials and worked on the construction of the Russian barracks, and later they ran a kosher eatery for several hundred Jewish soldiers serving in the tsarist army. A fire in 1895 (burned 400 buildings - a synagogue, houses, shops) a large group of Jews immigrated to Palestine. The oldest Jewish families : Golombek, Burstein,
