Synagogue in Narewka - the information board has been placed
Right at the beginning of December 2018 and in the middle of Hanukkah, at Ogrodowa 12 Street the signpost about the synagogue of Narewka has been placed. It indicates the spot where the synagogue used to be located and gives the basic information about it. It's written in three languages (Polish, Hebrew, English and Russian) and is 90x70cm big.

The idea of having such board came form Zvika Birenbaum - the principle of a high school in Israel and the descendant of a Jew from Narewka. The idea became a reality thanks to Narewka Municipality and in cooperation with Paulina Weremiuk, a teacher form Narewka School. This project is one of many others that Narewka school runs together with Israeli school.

Next week, 10 December 2018, the signboard and the synagogue site will be visited by the participants of an educational trip that students of the 3rd grade of Secondary School together with a teacher Paulina Weremiuk have prepared for their peers from schools in Dubiny and Bialystok city, as well for the citizens of Narewka. The trip is the final effect of the workshops of "Forum for Dialog" organization from Warsaw that Narewka's students took part in. During the workshops they studied Jewish history and religion and the culture of modern Israel. Besides the synagogue spot, the trip will lead to Jewish cemetery, to Mass Burial Site in Zabłotczyzna and to Tamara Soloniewicz Gallery where the participants will see a model of Narewka from before the war times when Narewka used to be 70% Jewish.

The great opening of the synagoge signboard will be held in February 2019 during the visit of Israeli school together with its principal Zvika Birenbaum to Narewka's School. The ceremony will be honoured by the presence of local authorities, priests and students from Narewka and Israel.
