I. A. Kustin, Ginzburg Wyskind Wiskind
Pralnia

My great-grandfather, Benisz/Benjamin Kustin was born in 1882 and had at least two brothers (one named Abraham) who also emigrated to the United States.   Ben`s wife, Hinde (mother of Israel, whose grave we found) was born Hinde Wyskind in 1881.   As a child, I had a close relationship with my grandfather Abraham Kustin, who had emigrated to New York as a young boy.  His father had left Bialystok for the United States a few years before sending for the rest of the family.
I grew up hearing my grandfather`s stories of an older brother who had been shot out of his mother`s arms on the streets of Bialystok, and of my grandfather sitting on the side of a road as a small boy when a soldier approached and pointed a gun at him, but spared his life.
More than 40 years after my grandfather`s death, I was lucky enough to have Tomek take me and my son on a tour of Bialystok and the surrounding area.  Tomek`s work was amazing, and against the odds we walked in my grandfather`s and his family`s footsteps, finding his brother`s grave. It was emotional but uplifting to place stones on my great-uncle`s headstone, realizing that had my great-grandmother instead died on that long-ago day - as intended, my son and I would not be alive to visit at all.
