European Day of The Righteous
It's the date of Mosze Bejski's death (born in Działoszyce,
near Cracow) - the initiatior of The Garden of the Righteous in Jerusalem as well as the
co-originator of the "Righteous Among the Nations" definition.
Righteous Among the Nations term (Chasidei Umot HaOlam) originates from Jewish
tradition - the Wisemen literature - where it was used to describe non-Jews who came to rescue to
Jews in need or to non-Jews who obeyed the fundamental principles of the Bible, shedding of blood
prohibition including. Therefore, Yad Vashem has used this existing term and gave it a new meaning.

Today, the
term of 'righteous" has its universal meaning. It refers not only to people who facing the genocide
had the courage to help the victims, but also it referst to all those who act in a defence of others
all around the world.
