Translation of the memoirs of Jakob Jerusalimski

Today, a great friend of our Museum, Beate Schützmann-Krebs, especially for the readers of JewishBialystok.pl, made available the results of her translation work - the biography of Jakob Jerusalimski "Memoirs And Writings From A Bialystoker", translated into English.

Jakob Jerusalimski, "the little one", as he calls himself, was born in 1900 and grew up in "Chanajki", a poor district of Bialystok. In moving words and with details, he describes the Bialystok of his childhood and youth and suddenly everything comes alive again!

We follow him on a journey through time, strolling along shopping streets, through the "Breml" next to the city clock, watching events in the famous "city parks" and meeting prominent, engaging and quirky characters from old Bialystok.

Reading the memoirs allows you to get to know Bialystok through the eyes of a curious and adventurous child.

We present a translation from Yiddish to English of the first 114 pages of the biography. The translation also includes a list of names that will certainly make it easier.
