Ełk - Lyck - jewish cemetery
1837-1945
Jewish cemetery established on the so-called Jerusalem Hill in the
1830s. The oldest grave dates back to 1837. Jewish tombstones in Lyck/Elk were made of sandstone and
marble. A chapel was also located there.
In 1877, a funeral
fraternity, Chevra Kadisha, was established in the Elk Jewish
community.
Among those buried there were Rabbi Eliezer Lipman Silberman, as
well as David Gordon - editors of "Hamagid".
The cemetery was destroyed
during World War II.
