Cytryn Henryk Chaim
1911 Opatów – 1941 Białystok
(1911 Opatów – 1941 Białystok) – painter, graphic designer. From 1931, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He often collaborated with his brother, also a painter – Jakub C.; their works were shown at exhibitions organized by the Jewish Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts (ŻTKSP, Żydowskie Towarzystwo Krzewienia Sztuk Pięknych).
He painted landscapes ("Łódź rybacka" - "Fishing boat"), flowers, still lifes, genre scenes – also with Jewish motifs ("Na targu" – "At the market", "Chłopiec z wózkiem – "Boy with a trolley", "Wnętrze synagogi w Kazimierzu" – "Interior of the synagogue in Kazimierz"), portraits.
Colour plays the most important role in his paintings. He built the composition using large colour patches, wide brush strokes, and outlined people and objects with a thick contour. The colours of his paintings are toned down, he liked using various shades of brown, green, grey, sometimes brightening the canvas with a lighter colour spot. He also did lithography and woodcut.
